Age Appropriate
Our content is designed to match the cognitive level of the client with Down syndrome
What’s Age Appropriate Content?
Navigating age-appropriate lessons can indeed be challenging, especially when there’s a prevalent belief that children with Down syndrome may have lower cognitive abilities. However, Darcy’s extensive experience with over 60 clients has shown unequivocally that Down syndrome is not an intellectual delay. Each of her clients demonstrates intelligence and resilience.
In the SPELLERS Method, lessons are structured to teach motor skills, specifically the ability to point to letters and spell out answers. The approach operates on the presumption that individuals with Down syndrome already possess the capacity to spell and read—something Darcy herself initially doubted in her own son, Brady.
Remarkably, Darcy has found that every child with Down syndrome she’s worked with, including those as young as four years old, has shown proficiency in spelling and reading. These age-appropriate lessons play a crucial role in stimulating our children’s minds and provide the cognitive challenges they crave.
By integrating high cognitive content into the lessons, Darcy not only enhances their motor skills but also nurture their intellectual development. This approach empowers individuals with Down syndrome to engage meaningfully with educational content that respects and cultivates their intelligence.
